Why We Built This One
At Rustic and Gold, we don't design rings by committee.
We find a stone that stops us, and we build around it. This kite diamond did exactly that. The grey-black matrix running through it, the sharp geometry of the shape, the way the step-cut faceting holds light rather than throws it — we knew within about ten minutes of having it in our hands what this ring was going to look like.
The V-shaped band came from wanting the setting to feel as deliberate as the stone. We didn't want a straight band sitting underneath a dramatic center diamond.
We wanted something that pointed toward it, and also that drew the eye upward, that felt like the whole ring was built with intention from the bottom up. That's what the V band does here, and honestly, it's one of our favourite details we've put into a ring this year.
The Stone — What Makes It Special
This kite diamond is 1.12 carats, measuring 10.3 x 8mm, with a grey-black matrix and step-cut faceting.
Kite shapes are something we keep coming back to at Rustic and Gold because they do things on the finger that other shapes simply can't. Four sides, two points, a geometry that's sharp and architectural without being cold. The elongated shape draws the eye along the finger naturally. The points give it attitude.
The step-cut faceting on this stone is what we'd want anyone looking at it to pay attention to. It's not trying to dazzle you, but it catches light slowly, holds it. Let the grey and black inside the stone come through clearly. In morning light, it reads silvery and cool. By afternoon, it deepens. It's a stone that rewards actually looking at it rather than just glancing.

The V Band — Our Favourite Detail

Black diamonds on a rose gold band is a combination we've always loved at Rustic and Gold. The darkness of the stones against the warm blush of the metal creates a contrast that feels rich and deliberate.
The V shape underneath focuses everything upward toward the center stone, giving the whole ring a sense of direction. It doesn't sit flat across the finger — it rises toward the diamond, which is exactly where your eye ends up anyway.>
Setting black round brilliants along a V band is detailed work. The curve of the V means each stone has to be positioned individually, checked for level, and also checked for consistency with the stones beside it. Our craftsmen do this by hand, every time. The finished band has a quality to it that you can feel as much as see.
