Our Kite Set Salt and Pepper Engagement Ring
When we found this kite-shaped diamond, we didn’t try to change it. We didn’t try to “improve” it. We built our design around it.
This ring started with the stone. A natural salt and pepper diamond with a silvery-grey matrix that looks almost like smoke trapped inside a crystal. It felt raw. Honest. Different from the usual bright white center stones we see every day.
So we decided to let it stay exactly that way.
The Kite Diamond We Chose
The shape is the first thing you notice. A kite cut isn’t common, and that’s why we love working with it. The pointed edges and elongated silhouette give the ring direction. It feels bold without being oversized.

This diamond weighs 1.39 ct and measures 10 x 8 mm, which gives it presence. Not loud. Not overpowering, but just strong enough to be noticed.
What drew us to this stone:
-
The natural silvery-grey salt and pepper matrix
-
Step-cut faceting that creates depth instead of sharp sparkle
-
The elongated angles that make the hand look graceful
-
The fact that no other stone will ever look exactly like it
We don’t hide inclusions in salt and pepper diamonds, but we look for them. Those internal patterns are what make each ring personal.
Why We Designed the Split Shank in the Kite Set Engagement Ring
Once the center was chosen, we knew the band couldn’t be plain. The kite shape has strong lines, so we softened the structure with a delicate diamond split shank.
Our split design:
-
Frames the center without overpowering it
-
Adds subtle sparkle from small salt and pepper accents
-
Gives a slightly vintage feel
-
Balances the sharp geometry of the kite
There are approximately 0.32 ct of small accent stones set into the band. We matched their tone to the center so everything feels cohesive. Nothing looks randomly added.

When you see the ring from the side, the split detail adds dimension. From the top, it keeps the focus on the kite.
Our Prong Setting in White Gold
We crafted this ring in 14K white gold because we wanted the cool tone to enhance the grey matrix of the diamond.
We chose a prong setting for a reason:
-
It protects the pointed corners
-
It keeps the diamond elevated
-
It allows light to enter the step facets
-
It highlights the sharp outline
Each prong is shaped specifically to fit the angles of this stone. We don’t use generic settings. We measure, adjust, and refine until the stone sits perfectly centered.
How We Craft It: Kite Set Engagement Ring
Our artisans work on each kite set engagement ring by hand.
We:
-
Measure the exact dimensions of the diamond
-
Build the setting around that specific stone
-
Align the split shank evenly
-
Smooth and polish the 1.7 mm band for comfort
The band may look slim, but we make sure it’s strong. We slightly round the inner edges so it feels natural on your finger. We think about how it will look years from now, not just how it photographs today.
Our Ethical Approach
We use natural, ethically sourced diamonds and recycled gold in our work. Choosing salt and pepper stones allows us to embrace diamonds in their raw state instead of chasing only flawless material.

We believe beauty doesn’t have to come at the cost of responsibility.
Customizing Our Design
If you love the idea but want it adjusted, we can make it yours.
We can:
-
Change the gold tone to yellow or rose
-
Modify the bandwidth
-
Adjust the accent stones
-
Finish it in high polish or a softer matte
Every salt and pepper diamond ring is unique, just like your story.
